So you've decided to
come to Oahu, "the gathering place". In the old days you
didn't have any choice to land here first, but today there
are direct flights to most major islands. Oahu is the third
largest island in the Hawaiian archipelago, and considered
the main island hosting our state capital, Honolulu, and
over one million in population. Oahu has about 617 square
miles, but most the population reside within Honolulu city
limits with the glow of Honolulu city lights and the endless
pleasures of the district of Waikiki. The town side's reputation
speaks for itself, but we prefer the quiet north shore and
the lesser publicized windward side. With some of the most
famous beaches in the world and the night life equal to
any in the world, Oahu's "town and Country" mix is enough
to fill anyone's appetite for adventure and fun.
It's difficult to say
exactly what is the main attraction to Oahu, but here are
some of the main attractions available to anyone:
Honolulu/Waikiki: World class dining,
cafes, bars, nightclubs, beaches, canoe rides, boat charters, bike
and moped rentals, huge hotels, small bed and breakfast, and so much
more. Pearl Harbor: The home of the pacific fleet of
the United States. Such historic sights as the Arizona memorial and
the "Mighty Mo" battleship Missouri. Diamondhead
Crater: Explore the inside of the most famous land mark in
Hawaii via an underground stairway.
The
Polynesian Cultural Center: Endless windward experiences
at the Disneyland of Hawaii. The North Shore:
Here in the winter time can be found the largest ratable
surf in the world, and in the summer some of the most pristine
beaches on the island perfect for scuba or just catching
some sun.
The Wainae Coast:
Located on the west end of Oahu
the
Wainae coast is not for everyone. Beautiful white sand beaches
with surfing for locals only.
